The cellist Yo-Yo Ma arrived at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston Thursday morning to perform in a memorial service for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Ma's performance featured the Sarabande from Bach's Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor.
The service, which was attended by about 2,000 people, according to the Boston Globe, also featured a performance by members of the Boston Children's Chorus. President Obama, Boston mayor Thomas Menino and religious officials are among those who spoke.
Ma, a 1976 graduate of Harvard University, is a longtime resident of Cambridge, MA. He has previously performed at the funeral for Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 2009, and at the memorial service for Steve Jobs 2011. He’s also performed at anniversary services for 9/11 and other events.
The bombings on Monday left three dead and more than 170 injured.
