"Prayers and Praise" is an album of music by Alexander Raskatov, commissioned and recorded by the Hilliard Ensemble. The male vocal quartet is joined by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and conductor Krystof Marakta on Obikhod and accompanied by optional bells on Praise. Both works use texts and musical material from Russian Orthodox liturgy.

Mode Records recently released the tenth album in their Giacinto Scelsi Edition. Weiping Lin performs all of Scelsi's works for solo violin, including the world premiere recording of the recently-discovered Divertimento 2. The album also includes the virtuosic Divertimenti 3 and 4, and the later works Xynobis and L'ame ailee - L'ame ouverte, microtonal pieces that illuminate single tones through changes in dynamic and playing techniques.

The New York Philharmonic performs three works by Magnus Lindberg on our album of the week. All of the music was composed during Lindberg's tenure as their first composer-in-residence. EXPO and Al largo for orchestra are both brightly energetic and grandiose. Yefim Bronfman is featured in the more brooding Piano Concerto No. 2 and all three works are conducted by Alan Gilbert.
