We first met American pianist Andrew Tyson when he took first prize at the 2011 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He is now a 2013 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner along with violinists Itamar Zorman and Bella Hristova and pianist Kuok-Wai Lio, all of whom were featured on last week’s show.

Rounding out the winner’s circle is the Escher String Quartet, which performed several times during the Britten Centennial celebration at Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. From those concerts we have a complete performance of Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 2, which was written in 1945 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of Henry Percell.

Program details:

Chopin: Mazurka in E minor, Op. 17, No. 2
Chopin: Mazurka in B-flat major, Op. 17, No. 1
