Video: Teenage Guitarist Rocks Vivaldi, Goes Viral

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 - 09:44 AM

Earlier this year, we looked at the phenomenon of rock guitar videos featuring the music of J.S. Bach. But it's not only Bach who appeals to bedroom shredders.

Last month, a teenage French guitarist who goes by the name Tina S. released a video of herself playing "Summer" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. It quickly went viral and has since received more than 1.4 million views.

In case you didn't see it, the performance is below. Watch and tell us what you think in the comments.

This version may introduce some rock genre youngsters to classical music. They have the introduction and will soon be on their way to classical music in its refined form. More Nigel Kennedys are needed to expand the classical audience

Joke Desposito:

The distortion is the point of playing the Four Seasons on an electric guitar! If she played a transcription for classical guitar it would be something entirely different!

I thought she did great. Anyone who is willing to put themselves up for public review deserved ultimate credit just for trying, and in her case succeeding. Anyone who has posted a negative comment believing they are an expert, which in this case is unjustified, let them put their stick up for public scrutiny.

Wonderful! She brings to mind the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble, who brought joy and great music to many back in the day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Rock_%26_Roll_Ensemble

Can we hear that with the distortion off? I know everything there is to know about music theory and, theoretically, she really can't play a real guitar.
