This year, the New York Phil has launched a series of commissions and premieres called CONTACT! Their first concert, which we talked about here was a lovely event, and we are pumped to webcast the most recent show from this series on Thursday and Saturday.

This week’s concert features world premieres by Nico Muhly, Sean Shephard, and Matthias Pintscher. Granted, I am unbelievably biased, as I went to school with two of these guys, but I think this concert will be quite an event! All week long, we’ll be featuring music by the CONTACT! commissionees, including those from this past weekend.

It’s great that the Phil has started this initiative. Here’s hoping they continue to commission young composers and maybe even throw them onto a subscription concert someday. Ahem.

Click here for the New York Philharmonic's CONTACT! YouTube page which includes interviews and video diaries from each of the commissioned composers.

Great show today, Nadia, the Bjarnason, Martin, Liebermann and now the Rautavaara. Super selections, all cinematic/atmospheric, a cool through-line to the program today + downhill skiing, no less. Looking forward to the CONTACT! airings, too.
