WQXR - It's Everywhere You Want To Be

Wednesday, May 05, 2010 - 10:17 PM

A few weeks ago I got a text message from a friend saying she was listening to me on air at a bodega in Brooklyn. Just last week I listened to my colleague Midge Woolsey while at my doctor’s office in Manhattan.

Business owners have so many options when it comes to entertaining their employees and customers, so it’s always delightful to hear when they choose classical music on the radio.

Where are some of the places you go that have classical music playing during business hours? Perhaps we can support the music by supporting those businesses that treat us to great music.

I pretty much love the new WQXR across the board. Except for the bandwidth! :o(

I first listened to WQXR on the radio in my first car as a teenager just discovering classical music. I listen to it while baking and crafting my daughter's wedding cake and when I am baking my special cakes and cup cakes. It has become a background for my life. I have my stereo unit set on timer so when I arrive home I can hear the music from the drive way as I arrive, and it welcomes me when I walk in through the door. In the mornings, the alarm is programed so that I am awakened eto the music and the morning host Jeff Spurgeon with his witty comments and annecdotes. In the car its always on. In short WQXR keeps me company when I am home, on the road and at work. Thank you

In today's world it is no big deal to process music from almost any source and to find music long neglected in archives from warehouses--in NJ they discovered Gershwin music scores and in Russia recordings of 1930s American performances long thought unrecorded. Now with the "Met" Opera's available recordings of past broadcasts on their internet venue and the Sirius wide availability of music of all types and formats on high quality digital sound, we have a cornucopia of options. Classical music for those who seek relaxed easy listening has much to offer that is real music performed with often outstanding talented performers, not the unjustly, undeservedly, highly flaunted midget "talents" completely dominating commercial radio and TV.

And Spain? Do we have members in Spain? That would be so nice.

Hi everyone at WQXR,
We just want to say we love your station here in Southern Alberta, Canada! I listen to it in my office all the time.

Since the CBC has canceled all morning classical music programing, we have sought out alternate sites. Your programming is brilliant, and much appreciated.

Thanks again,
Dr. Grigg
