Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock

Kirk and Spock began their trek to the final frontier on TV back in 1966, and they and their later colleagues have been taking us on outer space adventures ever since. On this week's Movies on the Radio, host David Garland offers some of the music composed to add heart, drama, and humor to those adventures.

We hear music by Alexander Courage, Gerald Fried, Jerry Fielding, Fred Steiner, Jerry Goldsmith, Jay Chattaway, and Dennis McCarthy from the original and subsequent editions of Star Trek on television.

This is delightful. I heard about this through slate's Culture Gabfest podcast. Is there no way to subscribe to shows via iTunes?

David, may the Great Bird bless you enormously for remembering that all Star Trek fans must also be classical music fans. Because we are.

By the way, "The Corbomite Maneuver" was part of the first season. And it heralds the official time of Jim Kirk as captain of the Enterprise. We would se her as he saw her during that episode.
