Sound Portraits

Thursday, July 22, 2010 - 12:00 AM

What does the City sound pictures? Friday, July 23rd is the last day to show us. WQXR's Jerome L. Greene Space is holding a contest called "Making Visible the Invisible," looking for photos that portray the sound of New York.

If that seems impossible, just think of all the composers who captured visual images in music: Ottorino Respighi's Three Botticelli Pictures, Claude Debussy's Estampes (Woodcuts), and of course Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition

So quick--get out your camera, figure out how to make visible the invisible, and upload the results here.

Also, I'd like to know your favorite spots in the City, sound and all--places that are not on the usual visitor's agenda. Brighton Beach? Sunnyside? Governor's Island? Any and all suggestions welcome!
