In a few weeks there will be more than 100,000 Americans troops in Afghanistan. In this week's Washington Report on WQXR, WNYC's Kerry Nolan talks to David Sanger, Chief Washington Correspondent for The New York Times, about whether this is the highest number of American troops the Obama administration will send to Afghanistan, and what the timetable will be for withdrawing troops.

Sanger also talks about the abatement of the political crisis in the Gulf of Mexico now that BP is close to permanently capping the spill. And, Sanger weighs in on the Senate's approval of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court on Friday, and where the jobs bill is in the House.
