Congress reconvenes this week, with tax cuts and spending bills on the agenda. House Republican leader John Boehner commented this weekend that he'd be open to a middle-class tax cut, even if Democrats refuse to extend the cuts to the wealthy.

On this week's Washington Report on WQXR, WNYC's Kerry Nolan talks to David Sanger, Chief Washington Correspondent for The New York Times, who says that Boehner's comments are not a sign of a new bipartisanship in Washington, as Congressmen prepare for this week's primaries in nine states.

Sanger also gives insight into President Obama's first press conference since May, where he spoke on the nation's need to be not exclude Muslim-Americans, in light of the recent controversy over the Islamic Cultural Center and Mosque in Lower Manhattan.
