This week's series takes its name from William Blake's famous description of British landscapes. Not only poets were inspired by the English countryside, British composers, particularly those of the early 20th century, formed a bond with the landscape, host Bill McGlaughlin explains. Throughout the program, you'll hear works describing pastoral settings by composers including Holst, Elgar, Vaughn Williams and others.

Exploring Music airs weeknights at 11 pm on WQXR.
