Astral Artists

Tune in to the Young Artists Showcase on Wednesday at 9pm for the first installment of a two-part program featuring the talented young Astral Artists. Since 1992, Astral Artists has been holding annual competitions and providing management and career services for its winners. Much like WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase, the organization is dedicated to jumpstarting the careers of promising, emerging classical musicians, offering in-depth mentorship and preparation for their future careers.

The program will include a selection of music from performances at Philadelphia’s Trinity Center for Urban Life, featuring several members of the Astral Artists team from the 2015-2016 season. This week, we hear a trio of trios by Debussy, Beethoven, and Algerian composer Marc Eychenne.

Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp, L. 137
-- Annie Wu, flute; Ayane Kosaza, viola; Caroline Cole, harp

Beethoven: Piano Trio in G Major, Op. 1, No. 2
-- Ayano Ninomiya, violin; Clancy Newman, cello; Alexander Moutouzkine, piano

Eychenne: Dance for Violin, Saxophone, and Piano
-- Eunice Kim, violin; Jonathan Wintringham, saxophone; Hugh Sung, piano
