Portrait of Ludwig van Beethoven by Joseph Karl Stieler.

This week on Reflections from the Keyboard, David Dubal continues his journey across the landscape of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas. He shares with us the ideas and inspirations animating these great works, and he introduces us to some of the most devoted pianists ever to record them. On this program, we hear movements from two of the most technically challenging sonatas—the Appassionata and the Hammerklavier—as well as the minuet from the last sonata ever to feature music inspired by this dance.

Tune in on Thursday night at 8pm or Sunday night at 10pm for the latest installment of Beethoven and the Sonata Idea.
