In this series, Beethoven and the Sonata Idea, host David Dubal takes us inside Beethoven’s world, revealing the master not just as a musician, but also as a man. Beethoven was troubled and tormented, unable to find comfort amidst his unrelenting health problems and his domestic concerns. And yet, despite the many challenges he faced, Beethoven created music of enduring power and beauty.

This week, host David Dubal continues to explore individual movements from Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas, including movements from the Sonata Pathétique and the Hammerklavier, as well as a comparative performance of the Presto from the sixth piano sonata.
