Join us Saturday at 1 pm for Bellini’s Norma from San Francisco Opera featuring the soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in her career-defining role.

At a Druid temple erected in the forest, a ménage-a-trois story unfolds among Roman proconsul Pollione, Norma (Oroveso’s daughter) and priestess virgin Adalgisa. When Pollione’s fickle love turns to Adalgisa, Norma’s rage stirs a call for war but leads to an unexpected sacrifice at the altar.

Radvanovsky plays the title role, having debuted at the Met in the same role, and astounding audiences with her powerful coloratura voice. She is paired alongside up-and-coming mezzo soprano Jamie Barton as Adalgisa (both singers are currently appearing at the Metropolitan Opera). Nicola Luisotti takes the helm at the podium.

Coloratura can only rarely be, in my experience, be used as understatement.

Glorious music. Norma and the Druids. Sounds like a rock group.
