Benjamin Britten's wonderful tour of the modern symphony in his work The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra actually began as music for a film introducing musical instruments to children. He later took his composition, based upon a theme by Henry Purcell, and turned it into this purely musical work.

This week on Classical for Kids, we will hear examples of instruments from the woodwind and string families, playing the music Britten wrote specifically for them. Tune in next week to hear from the brass and percussion instruments.
