Carl Nielsen Carl Nielsen (dankultur.dk)

The great Danish composer Carl Nielsen wrote for every genre: chamber music, concerti, opera, sonata, works for piano and six masterful symphonies, which provide the anchor for this series.

Born to a pair of amateur musicians, Nielsen was celebrated widely in 2015, the 150th anniversary of his birth. Host Bill McGlaughlin takes listeners through Nielsen's early influences, including his mother and his fellow countryman Niels Gade, to his mature works.
