How do artists refresh and maintain their creative lives? Every week, one of our favorite artists will take over our Instagram to reveal his or her favorite forms of down-time and/or preparation. We then compile the takeover into a web feature for you! Follow the takeovers live on our Instagram account and catch the write-up from the latest feature below.
Time Out New York deemed Missy Mazzoli “Brooklyn’s post-millenial Mozart.” Mazzoli's music has been performed all around the globe by performers such as pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Maya Beiser, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dublin’s Crash Ensemble, Kronos Quartet, and Opera Philadelphia among others. This week, Missy gives us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a rehearsal for her opera Breaking the Waves, which opens tonight at NYU’s Skirball Center as part of the 2017 Prototype Festival.

Just another day at work for conductor Julian Wachner and soprano Kiera Duffy...teching for Breaking the Waves at the Skirball Center, New York premiere this Friday!
That moment during a break in the rehearsal when the composer climbs onto the set to lie down so that no one will ask her any questions for ten minutes ;)
Our cast for Breaking the Waves is THE BEST. Here is bass Matt Curran, sporting some 1970s facial hair and totally rocking the part of Terry in this production. Amazing oil rigger costume by Chrisi Karvonides!
Composer/Librettist RAMEN BREAK at Ipuddo!
Soprano Kiera Duffy has a little chat with God...
Producer selfie with Beth Morrison! In front of projections by Adam Larsen...
