Donizetti's The Elixir of Love From the Royal Opera House
Thursday, January 01, 2015
There's not a lot to be taken seriously in this comic romp by Donizetti, unless, of course, you count the music. It's some of Donizetti's finest and takes The Elixir of Love beyond the world of farce to a place where simple confidence leads to life-changing revelations.
On World of Opera, host Lisa Simeone presents The Elixir of Love from one of the world's great operatic venues, London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The production features tenor Vittorio Grigolo as the lovesick Nemorino, alongside soprano Lucy Crowe as Adina and bass-baritone Bryn Terfel as Dr. Dulamara, the shady salesman whose dubious tonic gets the story rolling.
Nemorino: Vittorio Grigolo (tenor)
Adina: Lucy Crowe (soprano)
Dr. Dulcamara: Bryn Terfel (bass-baritone)
Belcore: Levente Molnár (baritone)
Giannetta: Kiandra Howarth (soprano)
