I sang in the chorus of a Virginia Opera Association production of "Lucia" in the mid-70s with Ashley Putnam. Impressive but not overwhelming. DD~~

LUCIA is for coloratura sopranos what SWAN LAKE is for prima ballerinas. BOTH must be "on their toes." ALBINA SHAGIMURATOVA is an excellent LUCIA, but in my many years of singing opera tenor roles and also as a member of the audience, she in not among the dozen or so that I personally heard in live performances, that were REALLY spectacular. We can all improve. I wish her and Maestro JAMES CONLON all the best with many years ahead.

Wonderful performance of one of my favorite bel canto operas by my favorite composer Gaetano Donizetti. Ms. Shagimuratova is doing an excellent job in the role of Lucia. Very powerful voice and control. Love the glass harmonica in the mad scene....that isn't done in too many performances of Lucia anymore. Well done but still doesn't hold a candle to my dear Dame Joan Sutherland. Well done, LA Opera and BRAVA to Ms. Shagimuratova!

My problem is that as I listen to today's performance, in my mind's ear I hear the Callas/Distefano Lucia, recorded in the '50's, either studio or live version, and there is just no comparison!
