Duo Amadea's Esther and Sun-A Park with Melvin Stecher, Norman Horowitz and Robert Sherman. Recorded concert from Ossining, NY Library. (Stecher and Horowitz Foundation)

On this week’s Showcase we’ll hear Mozart and Mendelssohn for piano four hands, and Piazzolla arranged for 18 strings. First, the sister team of Esther and Sun-A Park, known as Duo Amadeae. Born in Pusan, South Korea, the sisters each attended Juilliard Pre-College, and then studied at the renowned Hochschule fur Musik in Hannover, Germany. Then we’ll travel to Israel for the tangos, and our annual Chanukah visit to the Tel Aviv Opera House. For this gala performance to support the young musicians of the Keshet Eilon String Mastercourse, the Moscovia Chamber Orchestra played music by Piazzolla, Sarasate, and French-Argentine singer-songwriter-composer, Carlos Gardel.

I appreciated the technical fluency and artistry of those who played the four hand pieces. However, I thought the quality of the recording sounded muffled, like one that was done years ago. Kudos to Ossining Library for hosting such an event, but I would hope we might hear these artists recorded in another venue.
