On May 13, pianist Vijay Iyer, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, bassist Scott Colley and percussionist Satoshi Takeishi joined forces to open VisionIntoArt's inaugural 2014 Ferus Festival – a series of workshop-performances conceived as new-music incubators hosted as part of VIA's May residency at The Stone. The four world-class musicians each contributed original compositions to the free-flowing set.

The set began with two works by Scott Colley, titled January and The Smoke of Our Distraction, followed by Accumulated Gestures by Vijay Iyer. Satoshi Takeishi's Shattered Sky and Jeff Ziegler's Untitled came next. The evening closed with a fragment from Iyer's Bruits.

VisionIntoArt (VIA), the multimedia production company co-founded at the Juilliard School in 1999 by composer Paola Prestini has commissioned works from composers, choreographers, poets, filmmakers and other artists, with particular emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaborative projects.
