This week's Young Artists Showcase features in-studio performances by two of the new winners of the George London Foundation for Singers Competition. Beginning in 1971, the foundation has given out annual grants — now totaling $80,000 a year — to help outstanding young professional opera singers in the early stages of their careers. Host Bob Sherman discusses the history of bass-baritone George London with the late opera star’s wife, Nora London.

Along with Wagner excerpts from recordings of George London, we’ll hear Young Artists Showcase studio performances by soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano and her pianist husband Christopher Cano; bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green and pianist Liora Maurer; and performances by 2010 George London winner soprano Lori Guilbeau and pianist Warren Jones.
