Watch: This 'Star Wars' Ultimate Piano Medley Is Out of This World

Pianist Sonya Belousova's medley interpretation of Star Wars music is out of this world. (Youtube)

It’s 3 am. Bleary-eyed and with coffee pumping through your body, you race towards the multiplex and settle down into a seat. Your neck is sharply tilted upwards because, somehow, you were still late. But you aren’t surprised in the slightest — it’s opening night (or morning?) for Rogue One, the latest entry in the Star Wars film series. And you need to see it now if you want to avoid all the spoilers that will be tossed around at work in just a few hours.

The lights dim, some trailers roll and then there’s the blaring brass of the fanfare, the most familiar sound in the storied score. Chills run down your spine and a smile spreads across your face. It’s fandom at its finest. Unless you happen to be award-winning composer and pianist Sonya  Belousova.

It was right around the release of The Force Awakens this time last year that she took it to the next level and impressed many a fan with her fantastic medley of some of the most recognizable selections from the Star Wars films. Her costumes and piano change to reflect the themes she plays: all black with a lid-removed piano for the sinister "Duel of the Fates;" whites with a bun and R2-D2 themed piano for an ascendant "Princess Leia’s Theme."

Excitement for the new film, due out on Friday, is at an all-time high. Re-watching this video is just the thing you need to hold you over until you can make that early morning trek to a galaxy far, far away ... hopefully at a multiplex far closer to home.
