Yun Wei and Tristan Teo, Winners 2015 winners of the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. (Peter Schaaf, Julliard)

Once a year we travel to Paul Hall at the Julliard School to meet the winners of the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition.

The Bachauer Competition is a highly coveted award for pianists at The Julliard School. The award  provides free tuition and living expenses for the entire academic year. Two excellent pianists have won the honor two years in a row, which is a very rare achievement.

In 1980, one year after McGraw Hill launched the Young Artists Showcase on WQXR, Julliard named its most prestigious piano competition for the legendary Greek pianist Gina Bachauer. Every October since then, we present the audition winners in live recitals from Julliard’s campus.

The winners this year are Yun Wei and Tristan Teo. A graduate of the Wuhan Conservatory in China, pianist Yun Wei earned her Bachelors degree at Julliard this past May. She is now working towards her Masters degree. Pianist Tristan Teo is in his junior year at Julliard under the tutelage of Jerome Lowenthal. He is a Canadian native.
