@Mr. Sadi: I know the setting in Vegas was incorrect but I thought it was a hoot. There was film called Aria, I think, and there was an Elvis Presley look-a-like singing LaDonna e Mobile.

A great Rigoletto sung by Zeliko Lucic and an outstanding Gilda sung by Nadine Sierra.
I listened to this at home and fortunately did not have the updated scenery spoil the singing for me.
What does 16th Century Mantua have to do with a 20th casino in Las Vegas?
Keep the music and scenery where the composer and librettist wrote it for.

Bczala redeemed himself with La donna è mobile, didn't he? Was that interpolated note a D? He sounds good now in Act 3. Singing is ok today. I just can't stand the pompous idiots on the panel, the hostess, the commentator, awful all of them.

I did like the setting in Vegas. Fine Rigoletto and Gilda. Tenor a little strained. Yes, Povero Duca but look at the bright side. It could have been Grigolo.

Marvelous Rigoletto and Gilda. Can’t say the same of the Duke, who has been miscast. Beczala is good in roles like Lensky in Onegin and last season's Knight in Iolanta, but does not have the right vocal timbre for Verdi—he sounds strained and uncomfortable. Not pleasant to listen to.

Excellent Nadine Sierra, good diction, good voice is fine performance in the high register that in the low register. Nice color. Bravaaaaaaaaaa. Zeljko Lucic also very good, well-orchestra conducted by Maestro Abbado. Beczala is not in the right evening ........... happens but always good.

I am so very glad to still have the Met broadcasts! Out of money, out of time -- it is to good to be able to listen at home or in my car.

Hey, QXR, your proofreader needs help yet again. Ramon Vargas was in last week's Boheme (he was barely adequate, imho)but thankfully he has no part in today's Rigoletto. Another production I am thankful not to have to watch!
