On this week’s Young Artists Showcase, host Bob Sherman heads to the Sunshine State for a musical road trip to collect band music in Tampa, clarinet pieces in Sarasota, and a Chopin Ballade in Miami.

The first stop is in Miami at the ninth American Chopin Foundation Competition to hear Joshua Wright, a pianist from Utah. He came away with the silver medal this past February at the event. In a recording from the semi-finals of the competition, he performs Chopin’s Ballade Op. 38 No. 2 in F Major.

Then, heading across Alligator Alley and up Route 75 to Tampa, Sherman makes a visit to hear the University of South Florida Wind Ensemble. To close out the hour, Sherman shares music and conversation between former WQXR host June LeBell, clarinetist Moran Katz, and pianist Eliran Avni, recorded at the Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning.
