On Jan. 14, saxophonist Hafez Modirzadeh presented an evening of exploratory improvisation with cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, pianist Leo Genovese and violinist Cornelius Dufallo, as part of the 2016 Ferus Festival.

The music of Hafez Modirzadeh draws on his twin backgrounds of jazz and Iranian dastgah (a system of traditional Iranian and Persion music). Pulsivity Works 2 is comprised of a series of recent improvisational works centered on concepts described by the composer as "Pulsivity" and "Cyclic Refraction."

Currently a professor of World Music at San Francisco State University, Modirzadeh has performed with a slew of renowned artists including Steve Lacy, Don Cherry and Ornette Coleman.

The 2016 Ferus Festival was curated by VisionIntoArt and featured six performances incorporating music, theater and visuals at Brooklyn venue National Sawdust.
