Hilton Head International Piano Competition
Wednesday, September 23, 2015
This week's Young Artists Showcase is honed in on Hilton Head Island, S.C., where this past March, 20 teenaged pianists representing nine countries assembled to take part in the second biennial Hilton Head International Piano Competition. Their ranks eventually shrank to five finalists, each of whom performed a concerto movement with the Hilton Head Symphony. Three of these remarkable youngsters made it to the winner’s circle and the gold medalist, 15-year-old Elliott Wu, is a showcase alumnus.
The bronze medalist was 15-year-old Elisabeth Tsai from Montgomery, Ala. She brought a warm, singing tone and deep musical sensitivity to her performances.
The silver medalist was 13-year-old Xiaoxuan Li, who has already gone abroad to collect prizes in Germany, Japan and Italy.
