While there is never a lack of The New at Q2 Music, rarely has there been so much new in one week's worth of programing. This week we take our selections exclusively from recently piano releases – some featured on Q2 Music's Album Of The Week – and spin tracks from the front lines of new music.
The mix is anchored by classic repertoire newly recorded, and premiere recordings of brand new work. On Monday, for instance, we hear Orli Shaham in John Adams' China Gates (and later in the week in Hallelujah Junction, and the premiere recording of John Mackey's piano concerto), and a new piano quintet by jazz-pianist, composer and MacArthur genius recipient, Vijay Iyer.
Also this week we sample from a new disc of Alfred Schnittke's piano music by the probing Simon Smith, and hear works by David Rakowski, Paul Lansky, Timo Andres, Mohammed Fairouz, and many others.
