June 9, 2016, the 70th Ojai Music Festival opened with a chamber arrangement Kaija Saariaho's opera La Passion de Simone performed by soprano Julia Bullock with members of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and Roomful of Teeth. 

The performance was staged and directed by Peter Sellars, director of the 2016 festival, under the baton of Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro.

Set to a libretto by author Amin Maalouf, La Passion de Simone originally premiered in 2006 at Sellars's New Crowned Hope festival in Vienna, Austria. This Ojai Music Festival performance marked the U.S. premiere of the chamber version of the opera.

This on-demand music is part of a partnership between Q2 Music and the Ojai Music Festival to share live recordings from the festival dating back to the 2012 season.
