Impromptu String Quartet

This week on Young Artists Showcase, host Bob Sherman reintroduces the Impromptu String Quartet, grand prize winners of the Lyric Chamber Music Society’s fourth annual music competition. On tonight’s program, the group returns to perform selections from their New York debut recital at the Kosciuszko Foundation this past May, including works from Mozart, Turina, and Brahms.

The ensemble’s unique name comes from its early origins. Violinist Katherine Baloff and cellist Georgiy Khoklov played a string quartet together as children before their chance reunion at Lynn University’s Conservatory of Music. Violinist David Brill and violist Camille Ripple join the group to create the current ensemble.
