Lloyd Moss interviews writer James Michener about his life as an orphan; his methods of work; his work as an editor and in the British merchant marine and in the US Navy, from which came Rodgers & Hammerstein's _South Pacific_; and his current work with NASA. Mr. Michener discusses the musical selections of his choosing. He mentions he listens to music "every day" and that he knows about "fifty operas by heart". Of Brahms' Piano Quintet he says , "this is _my_ music" (34:48).
