Tallis Scholars (Eric Richmond)

Saturday, August 16 at 7 pm, tune in for episode three of Q2 Music at the Proms, featuring the world premiere of the late John Tavener's Requiem Fragments, as recorded live at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The program isĀ the second of this year's Proms to feature a world premiere the Russian Orthodox composer, who passed away last November. The expansive Requiem Fragments intersperses lines from the Latin Mass for the Dead with words from Hindu philosophy.

The evening opens with his 1984 Ikon of Light, inspired by a text by the 11th century mystic St Symeon.

Both pieces were written specifically for the Tallis Scholars, who perform here with the Heath Quartet. Requiem Fragments features soloist soprano Carolyn Sampson.
