The New York Philharmonic presents another Bravo! Vail festival performance recorded last year. The orchestra plays a program of Shostakovich, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, with Joyce Yang as the soloist on his Piano Concert No. 1. Bramwell Tovey conducts.

Program playlist:

Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain
Rachmaninoff: Vocalise
Tchaikovsky: “Waltz of the Flowers” from The Nutcracker
Tchaikovsky: Marche slave

I think all those who attended the Beethoven Piano Marathon at the Greene Space at WQXR on 20 November 2011, at which Ms. Yang played "The Hunt" Sonata No. 18, will be especially interested in hearing Joyce Yang play the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 1 with Bramwell Tovey and the N.Y. Philharmonic via this recorded performance, along with the rest of us in the radio/internet audience. I also think Mr. Tovey has a gift for keen programming. I'm assuming the "Night on Bald Mountain" is the Rimsky-Korsakoff completion and orchestration.
