Listen: 16 World Premieres with Jennifer Koh's 'Shared Madness'
Tuesday, May 24, 2016
May 24 at 7 pm, violinist and new-music champion Jennifer Koh's presented 16 world premieres for the first installment of her Shared Madness project from Williamsburg's National Sawdust. The evening was hosted by Q2 Music's Helga Davis and included premieres by Kaija Saariaho, Matthew Aucoin and Gabriel Kahane.
Shared Madness began as a way to thank new-music advocates and commissioners Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting, who generously helped the violinist purchase the valuable instrument which will be used during the two recitals. Each of the 32 composers involved wrote his or her short piece in appreciation of Koh and the Schlichtings commitment to fostering new music. The project evolved into an exploration of 21st-century virtuosity and the creative dialogue between composer and performer.
The second of the two concerts that comprise Shared Madness and its 32 world premieres will be Tuesday, May 31 at 7 pm at National Sawdust and will also be streamed live on Q2 Music.
