Charlie Looker and Mivos Quartet perform at the Ecstatic Music Festival on March 19, 2016 (David Andrako)

March 19, composer-guitarist Charlie Looker joined the Mivos Quartet and multimedia artist-singer M. Lamar at Merkin Concert Hall, as part of the 2016 Ecstatic Music Festival.

The collaboration featured Lamar's Surveillance Punishment and the Black Psyche alongside new music by Looker and arrangements of songs by bands Extra Life, Seaven Teares, and Psalm Zero.

M. Lamar is an artist, actor and counter tenor whose compositions cross genres, creating "sprawling narratives of radical racial and sexual becomings." A Yale School of Art drop-out, Lamar's work has been seen all over the world.

Charlie Looker is a founding member of the experimental collective Zs and the band Extra Life. He's collaborated with the Dirty Projectors, and has been commissioned by the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Ostrave New Music Days Festival, among others.

Mivos Quartet is devoted to "performing the works of contemporary composers" and presenting music to the most eclectic audiences. The quartet is equally as active in education, conducting music workshops across the world.

Q2 Music is the digital partner of the Kaufman Music Center's 2016 Ecstatic Music Festival.

I think I heard some of this music during the last of my many trips to Hell. Love it!
