Listen to the International Contemporary Ensemble and Red Fish Blue Fish perform the seminal works of American maverick composer Edgard Varèse's seminal works, along with a work by Carlos Chavez, recorded live at the Ojai Music Festival on June 11, 2015.

The concert features four of Varèse's most revolutionary works, several of which elicited vitriolic audience reactions when they were premiered. The program opens with Ionisation for thirteen percussionists, and Intégrales for large ensemble, and Claire Chase performs Density 21.5 for solo flute, followed by Déserts for large ensemble and tape.

In contrast to the radical futurism of Varèse's works, the final piece on the program evokes a mythic past – Carlos Chavez's Toccata for Percussion

This on-demand music is part of a partnership between Q2 Music and the Ojai Music Festival to share live recordings from the festival dating back to the 2012 season.
