On March 31, 2016, the ambitious chamber group Ensemble LPR presented "Sound and Fury," an evening of music by Andrew Norman, Michael Gordon, Arvo Pärt and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The through line of the evening was intensity – whether via the quiet, snowballing virtuosity of Arvo Pärt's 1977 Fratres (here performed with violin soloist Pauline Kim Harris), Michael Gordon's tumultuous Weather (2006), the fast turns of Andrew Norman's video game-inspired Gran Turismo (2004) or Dmitri Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Op. 110a (1960).

The ensemble was led by guest conductor Christopher Rountree, director of the Los Angeles-based chamber ensemble WildUp. Rountree has also conducted performances by the Chicago Symphony, LA Opera and Atlantic Opera, among others.

Headquartered at the Greenwich Village venue Le Poisson Rouge, Ensemble LPR is dedicated to redefining the identity of the modern classical music ensemble. Led by founder and artistic director David Handler, Ensemble LPR focuses on living composers from a wide variety of backgrounds and musical genres.
