On March 11, the strings of Ensemble LPR – Le Poisson Rouge's resident ensemble – gave two premieres, from Mica Levi (of Micachu & The Shapes) and David Longstreth (of Dirty Projectors), alongside works by Claude Vivier and Iannis Xenakis.
Led by conductor André de Ridder – returning to the ensemble after last year's Jonny Greenwood and Bryce Dessner concert – Ensemble LPR performed the world premiere of Longstreth's four-movement Michael Jordan for double string quartet, and North American premiere of Levi's Greezy for string orchestra. Works for strings by the esteemed Canadian composer Claude Vivier – tragically murdered in 1983 at the age of 34 – and the Greek-French polymath Iannis Xenakis completed the program.
