Sweden's Curious Chamber Players (MATA Festival 2015)

April 14th, the 2015 MATA Festival commenced with performances by the Curious Chamber Players, a Stockholm-based new music ensemble.

The group performed six new pieces written by young composers from around the globe, beginning with a performance of lintilli Bolivian composer Carlos Guittierez Quiroga. The other composers included Tomi Räisänen, Wang Lu, Malin Bång, and Johann Svensson.  The evening concluded with the premiere of …all words are already decided, by MATA’s own Todd Tarantino.

This year's festival took place at The Kitchen, one of New York City’s oldest nonprofit spaces that has been hosting contemporary and performing arts since its founding in 1971.

Founded by Philip Glass, Eleonor Sandresky and Lisa Bielawa in 1996, MATA is a not-for-profit organization that commissions, presents and supports the music of young composers. MATA presents a week-long festival of music by composers under age forty each spring in New York City.
