WQXR's broadcasts from the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland begin Sept. 9 at 9 pm with Andris Nelsons conducting the resident Lucerne Festival Orchestra in an all-Brahms program.

Joined by the Bavarian Radio Choir and alto Sara Mingardo, the orchestra presents Brahms's Alto Rhapsody, Op. 53. That work is bookended by the Serenade No. 2 and the Second Symphony.

This offers a chance to hear Nelsons conduct before he becomes the music director of the Boston Symphony.
