Manfred Honeck Conducts Bruckner Symphony No. 9
Thursday, June 30, 2016
Thursday at 9 pm, Manfred Honeck, the leader of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (and a front runner to become the next music director of the New York Philharmonic) leads the orchestra in Bruckner's towering Ninth Symphony, dedicated "to God."
The program opens with Claude Vivier's Orion, written in 1979. The 15-minute work references both Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal and Vivier's travels throughout Asia.
Alec Baldwin hosts.
