Robert Spano conducts the performance of The Rothko Chapel by the Ojai Festival Singers (Ojai Music Festival)

Tuesdays in June at 8 pm, celebrated choreographer Mark Morris – 2013 music director of California's Ojai Music Festival – highlights selections from the festival's last three years. The fifth and final installment of the five-week series features music of Karlheinz Stockhausen as arranged by Caroline Shaw, Gyorgy Ligeti and Morton Feldman.

The performances come from the summer of 2014, when pianist Jeremy Denk served as the festival's music director. On this show, we hear Denk perform the second book of Ligeti's fiendishly difficult Piano Etudes.

The founder of the internationally renowned Mark Morris Dance Group, Morris has collaborated with the San Francisco Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera. The recipient of eleven honorary doctorates, he was named a fellow of the MacArthur Foundation in 1991 and received a 2010 Leonard Bernstein Lifetime Achievement Award for the Elevation of Music in Society.

Join Mark Morris for commentary on featured composers and performers as well as first-hand insights into Ojai itself, which sits in a valley on the edge of the Los Padres National Forest.

Episode Five Program:

Morton Feldman – Madame Press Died Last Week at Ninety (The Knights; Eric Jacobsen, conductor)
Karlheinz Stockhausen (arr. Caroline Shaw) – Tierkreis: Leo (The Knights; Eric Jacobsen, conductor)
