Saturday at 1 pm, the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts its revival of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, starring Susanna Phillips, Danielle de Niese, Isabel Leonard, Matthew Polenzani and Rodion Pogossov.

This Mozart favorite is a comedy about two men (played by Polenzani and Pogossov) who a make a bet with an older friend that their women (played by Phillips and Leonard) will remain faithful while they're away. With the help of their feisty maid, Despina (De Niese), the three conceive a plot to test their girlfriend's fidelity and the resulting opera makes for an entertaining performance.

James Levine returns to the Met this week to conduct the opera company's 1996 Lesley Koenig production.

Cast:

Conductor: James Levine
Ferrando: Matthew Polenzani
Guglielmo: Rodion Pogossov
Don Alfonso: Maurizio Muraro

For 21st Century women the sopranos in today's performance did a fine job singing Mozart; our beloved.

Whatever music Maestro James Levine conducts, he enlivens the festivities with bringing forth the salient music lines and the spirit of the work. Singers appreciate his integrity, his concern for their delivering the best they know how. He is a real treasure and should be a model for all maestri. Great to have you back Maestro Levine !

Thank you CBC. I will not be listening either. This is an opera I would not take with me should I ever be marooned somewhere. Hope you are well.
Might not listen next week either. Think it will be I Puritani, which I call I Puricani. A real dog. Could not understand why Norma was not broadcast. Stay well.
Tante belle cose.

This opera is an insult to women and Neapolitans. We are not that stupid!
