LA CLEMENZA DI TITO has its precious moments, but today's audiences want a quick fix, a spartan action scenario or a languourous TALES OF HOFFMANN barcarolle. The times and mores chose the fare people choose to watch. Sports and theater arts and fine arts share imagination, a passionate desire to achieve one's uttermost and a gratification when others admire the accomplishment. My brother Dr. Ben C. Lane besides his university degrees, Princeton, New York University, SUNY, CUNY, Columbia (2) and Penn State College of Optometry, built a ski center in New York State, Princeton Ski Bowl, Inc., that rivalled in natural snow records the biggies of Vermont and New York State. He and I, a Wagnerian heldentenor and opera composer, with our optometrist dad and lawyer mom ran the ski center which got rave reviews on the TODAY TV SHOW and encouraged others to open their own ski areas. Hunter Ski Area in New York State was encouraged by such a prospect when the owners Slutskys, Orville and Israel, were hired by my brother to bulldoze the trails and slopes my brother designed. Skiing and singing have much the same allure, and practice, practice, practice with the best of mentoring can work wonders. Last June 1st I sang an All-Wagner concert in New York and am currently reprising all 12 hours of my four three hour long solo concerts at the Isaac Stern Auditorium of Carnegie Hall, but in different venues recording them on commercial DVDs. My next ALL-WAGNER solo concert, scheduling other selections derived from my previous CARNEGIE HALL programs will be on Saturday October 18th in New York.. The fact that opera and sport are mutually congenial, with lofty goals and eager fans demonstrates the ecstatic joy they provide to wide and growing audiences.

I meant to mention that while listening to the WQXR-FM broadcast of LA CLEMENZA DI YTITO i watched our channel 7 TV telecast of the ARGENTINA/BELGIUM soccer match. At my previous post's close Argentina clinched the match.

So far jOYCE D. DONATO, the Sesto, has the best of it, singing with her customary elan and sound vocal technique.

Some of the music in this one is gorgeous. Not presented enough. What to choose, listening to this or watching Argentina vs Belgium. Choices, choices. Of course, I will do both.

"The opera is the story of Roman Emperor Titus (79-81 A.D.) know as Tito (sung by Matthew Polenzani), who was known for his military prowess and forgiveness."

Quick fix needed -- 'known' as Tito.
