Composers love to put clocks and other “machines” into their music. This week on Classics for Kids, hear examples of music that imitates inanimate objects, including one about a famous fairy tale character for whom a clock striking midnight was very important.

Music used within the program:

Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 8

Franz Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 101, “Clock”

Zoltán Kodály: Háry János

Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev: Cinderella

Leroy Anderson: Syncopated Clock

Leroy Anderson: Typewriter

Jacques Offenbach: Tales of Hoffman
