Johann Strauss Sr. was a well known band leader and violinist, who would conduct his own works while playing his instrument. His three musical sons followed in his steps: Johann Jr.; Josef; and Eduard.

Sometimes they worked together as musicians — for example, when his father fell ill, Johann Jr. took over his ensemble, and they would write compositions together. At other times, though, bitter rivalry got in the way. Listen to hear more about the family in the audio clip above.
