This week on the Young Artists Showcase, we begin a two-part program featuring the wide range of music played by the National Festival Orchestra during its 29th season last June. Every year, the National Orchestral Institute and Festival brings together gifted young musicians from across the country. Having passed rigorous auditions, these emerging artists convene at the University of Maryland for seminars, master classes, and rehearsals guided by eminent faculty artists.

Tune in on Wednesday at 9pm to hear music by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, and Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, plus a bonus encore by Haydn.

Program:

Nielsen: Overture to Maskarade
-- National Festival Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vanska

Ginastera: Variaciones concertantes
-- National Festival Orchestra

Sibelius: Symphony No. 2, III. Vivacissimo and IV. Finale: Allegro moderato
-- National Festival Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vanska

Haydn: Symphony No. 82, Minuet
-- National Festival Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vanska
