National Festival Orchestra, Part 2

This week on the Young Artists Showcase, we return to the University of Maryland for more outstanding musical performances from the National Festival Orchestra’s 29th season. Every summer since 1988, the National Orchestral Institute has held auditions to select about 100 young instrumentalists to participate in one month of intensive study, master classes, sectionals and full rehearsals. This has been the model of many training ensembles around the country, and it gives young musicians the opportunity to grow both as individual artists and as ensemble players. As Institute Director Richard Scerbo said in his opening remarks, these young performers are working together to create moments of discovery, breaking down barriers for the audience.

Tune in on Wednesday at 9pm to hear music by two of the great French composers, Debussy and Ravel, as well as Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony.

Debussy: Jeux
-- National Festival Orchestra

Schubert: Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished Symphony”)
-- National Festival Orchestra

Ravel: La Valse
-- National Festival Orchestra
